2023's Malay Sultanate Coins and numismatic issues from the yesteryears.

A long-awaited stamp issue featuring Malay sultanate coins is finally out (this update is also long-awaited as well). An early trivia: it was not the first time for Pos Malaysia to issue such topic as it was previously done in 1998.  Only a short queue at Kuala Lumpur GPO when I arrived at 9am. With some time to spare, I managed to head over to Sungei Wang Plaza which was just a few stops from MRT Pasar Seni.  Making the 'setenant' strip look, and also made use of the stamp selvage with title by sticking it on the bottom of the cover. With the miniature sheet. This MS looks really good especially with the foil stamping incorporated. Later I was told that there was a special cachet offered by Bank Negara Malaysia Museum and Art Gallery from 14 April to 21 April 2023 - more than enough time! On display at the Bank Negara Malaysia Museum Overall, this is an interesting theme issued, which I believe would command interests from both philatelists and numismatists.  Here's a quic

PSM Auction No.2: Stamps I Won

Image
I attended Philatelic Society Malaysia (PSM)'s second auction of the year, which is organized on a monthly basis today. In fact, this is my first time experiencing it since I have just signed up for the membership earlier this year.  A very straightforward process, and there was not much competition in each lot.  There were 300 lots in total today. Mr. Subramaniam had to take 5-minute breaks in between lots.  Here is what I won: BMA ovp short set Quite toned but I figured the higher value ones are worth the RM11 buy.  A good buy without much competition. Just a few bucks above its reserved price. Fiscally used, there is a faint 'IFFE' for OFFICE seen on the stamp.  TB seal full sheet won at reserved price. I have been looking for this, and SABATA/NOBATA sheets for quite some time now. Perf variety of the Quails. Uncontended. I remember talking to a few people about getting this in previous stamp fairs. This is definitely a good buy - solves all my problem to hunt for variet

Snippet from a news article on Sin Chew Daily

Briefly after registering for Philatelic Society of Malaysia (PSM)'s membership during last year's stamp fair, Mr Tan Chee Hui of PSM introduced me to a journalist covering for the event then. A month later I was contacted by the journalist's colleague now ready for an interview - a small section in the newspaper "People with Stories".  As the article was written and published in Mandarin (and also the fact that my Mandarin throughout the interview was substandard, insufficient to convey my intended views), I thought a translation would be better for non-Mandarin speakers.  Photo credits to Mr Chen Jinghui, photographer. The article translation:  It was around 2014 that I found my father's philatelic book from middle school during spring cleaning, which was the first time I discovered stamps. My father then explained the purpose of stamps. The beginning of my journey in this hobby was in 2017 since prior to that, I did not know that anyone was selling stamps.

PSM Stamp Fair: Wrap-up and Loot

The stamp fair organized by Philatelic Society Malaysia (PSM) that was held on 10th and 11th December 2022 is a great way to transition to 2023 with a lighter wallet. At the usual spot, the Petaling Jaya Community Library once again becomes an assembly ground for people of all ages with a similar mindset: stamp hunting.  It is the second stamp fair held this year in conjunction with PSM's 75th Anniversary. The first was held earlier in September.  Pos Malaysia also participated with a Stamp Week program. Here is a short wrap-up of the stamp fair: Visible upon entering the library's main gate, Stamp Week buntings erected by Pos Malaysia. The entrance to the hall where the stamp fair was held. Line quickly forms at Pos Malaysia's booth. Patrons here to get the latest stamp issue but a better tip by KY Shum (not in picture) was to queue at the other side of the booth to get the limited miniature sheets overprinted with PSM's 75 anniversary logo.  Pos Malaysia's staff w
